In 1996 Shirley Vangeloff attended a private dinner party at 11 Bay Colony Lane in the guardhouse secured community of Bay Colony. Shirley had no idea that it would be the future family residence for over twenty years! Shirley is the mother to seven children who ranged in ages three to sixteen. Then, the Vangeloff family lived in Hollywood and Shirley wanted her family residence to be closer to Pine Crest School and other Fort Lauderdale amenities. Security was a priority, plus proximity to major highways and airports were paramount considerations to Shirley and her husband who travels frequently for business.

Shirley found it challenging to find a true ‘family’ residence that would accommodate the children, the housekeeper, frequent guests, and the growing needs of her family that remains so important to her. Plus Shirley was very involved in her growing businesses, so the Vangeloff family lived a hectic schedule. The armed guard security, single entrance and beautiful tree-lined isles gave Shirley an immediate sense of community in which to raise her family. Additionally, Shirley knew that many of her children’s friends would be close by to visit.

11 Bay Colony with its incredible entertaining flow and expansive bedroom suites immediately captured Shirley’s imagination and she recognized that the 197’ of water-frontage is rare and valuable. Shirley knew in her heart that this would be the perfect family retreat. From the glamorous and grand butterfly staircase, to the expansive rooms with high ceilings and wide galleries, this residence is timelessly elegant. At last a residence with the perfect floorplan, she thought! Flowing formal entertaining areas, a club room with bar and fireplace, media room, housekeeper/captain’s quarters, VIP Guest Suite with private kitchen and sitting area. The expansive family room was soon full of energy and laughter. Accommodation includes three bedrooms downstairs, with elevator access to the second level with three further bedroom suites, a game loft and ultra-luxurious master wing with separate his/her bathrooms and dressing rooms.

The grounds and waterfrontage of 11 Bay Colony are unrivalled, offering plenty of room for watersports and play. Shirley created the ultimate treat for kids of all ages; the poolside grotto and slide offered a private resort amenity and hours of endless fun in the Florida sunshine. The Vangeloff home became the social center for everyone to gather and play in safety, while the family became hugely involved in the Pine Crest School and hosted many large-scale parties and charity events.

Recently a beautiful 100’ Hargrave Yacht docked elegantly at the property, which will comfortably accommodate a vessel up to 130’, plus a selection of water toys along the rare 197’ frontage. Today the children are grown and Shirley is seeking to pass the happy legacy of 11 Bay Colony to a new family. Raina Vangeloff and Julie Jones-Bernard are proud to offer the residence at $4.995m.
